Kemahis located in the Houston-Baytown metropolitan area. Kemah was once a small fishing town and now it is known as a tourist destination with a boardwalk full of attractions and gorgeous views of the bay. Kemah Entertainment District features restaurants, shopping, historic attractions and fishing spots.
Kemah was named for the Indian word meaning “wind in my face.” While in Kemah you will notice a constant breeze coming off the bay. Kemah is only 25 minutes away from downtown Houston and 25 minutes to Galveston.
Kemah was originally a small fishing town; the city has become a tourist destination for the area''s restaurants and attractions, which are contained within the Kemah Entertainment District.
From the 1920s to the 1950s Kemah became a significant tourist destination resulting from investment by the Maceo crime syndicate which ran Galveston during this time. The syndicate created a lavish casino district along the boardwalk featuring venues such as the Chili Bowl and the Kemah Den.[4] During the 1950s the State Attorney General and the Texas Rangers finally shut down the Galveston vice empire.
During the 1950s a major commercial shrimp fishing fleet was established in the town as the Clear Creek Channel was opened. Though Hurricane Carla severely damaged the city in 1961, the city rebuilt and the fishing business revived. During the 1970s, in part as a result of the establishment of the Johnson Space Center on Clear Lake, tourism began to re-emerge as pleasure boats began to fill the lake.[5]
Kemah has significantly revived as a tourist and recreation destination, especially since the new Kemah Boardwalk, owned by Landry''s Restaurants, Inc., was developed in the late 1990s.

Clear Creek ISD, with in League City, was formed in 1948 and as of 2010 Clear Creek ISD was ranked as an “exemplary” school district. As of 2008 the graduation rate for Clear Creek ISD is 97%.
There are 22 K-12 schools in League City, TX, including 18 public schools and 4 private schools. League City public schools belong to two districts, Bay Area Charter Inc District and Clear Creek ISD District.
There are 10 League City elementary schools, 8 League City middle schools, 5 League City high schools and 26 League City preschool schools. All Schools are within Clear Creek ISD.
Clear Creek ISD is second-largest in the state to achieve exemplary status from the Texas Education Agency.
Clear Creek ISD has received three times a rating of Superior Achievement under Texas'' new Schools FIRST (Financial Accountability Rating System of Texas) program. Clear Creek ISD students scored well above the state averages on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) tests.
